OVERVIEW ON MIGRAINES
A migraine headache, or more popularly tagged as migraines, is a headache that often occurs at only one side of the head. The sufferer experience a pulsating and throbbing headache that goes from mild to severe and is often accompanied by signs such as dizziness, vomiting, nausea, sensitivity to light, smells and sounds, disruption of sleep and depression. The attacks of migraine keep on recurring and as the sufferer ages, the migraine becomes less severe.
There are different types of migraine, and these are classified according to the symptoms. The more common types of migraine are grouped into migraines with aura and migraines without aura. There are other less known types of migraine such as carotidynia, status migrainosus, abdominal migraine, basilar artery migraine, headache-free migraine (or auro without migraine), and opthalmoplegic migraine or what is better known as ocular migraine. There are also migraines which are only experienced by women and these are called menstrual migraines, or migraine headaches which occur either before or during a menstruation period. There are some women who develop these migraines during pregnancy or after menopause.
There are approximately 30 million people in the United States alone who experience migraine attacks. These headaches are usually experienced between the ages of 10 and 40 by the time the sufferer reaches 50, the migraine attacks begins to lessen. There are some people often experience these attacks while there are some who only have few episodes in their lifetime. And women are the ones most likely to suffer from this headache.
